Jaeho Lee (NCsoft Vice President)
02/2007
NCsoft is planning a summer closed beta for the upcoming MMORPG ‘Aion’.
In a conference call on February 7th NCsoft’s CFO Jaeho Lee revealed that the company is preparing for “the first Aion closed beta test to be held this summer”. Lee added that “the closed beta tests will occur with the goal of having the open beta by the end of the year.” ‘Aion’ is currently in internal testing phases within the company.
- Lee also made an official comment on the standing of their other MMORPG project, Lineage 3. Lee made known to the company’s foreign investors that “the Lineage 3 team has been reset”. The decision was made after “5 days of intense meeting and discussion”, during which it was concluded that the project lead Yonghyun Park(Lineage 3’s Project Manager) would be dismissed and the project itself put on hold. “We will bring together a new team for the project and get it back on track as soon as possible” said Lee, “Aion and other projects will not be affected by this in any way.” An employee at NCsoft added that they are “not sure if the designers that were working on Lineage 3 will remain with the project or if they will be moved to other projects.”

They still haven’t got Lineage 2 right, why bother bringing out Lineage 3?
They need to properly maintain the game (much more aggressive measures against botters and accounts used to obtain items for resale outside the game) and properly promote the game (there is virtually no marketing presence for Lineage 2in retail stores or magazines in the United States).
If they would correct these two issues, they would make all the revenue they hope to achieve through Lineage 3 without the development costs of creating a new game.

Thisson hit the nail on the head.
Usage of a program called L2Walker/L2Wind is at an all time high and this alone has caused such corruption in Lineage2 there are no new players coming in and old players are leaving the game. Not many people want to grind for a year to achieve the levels required to compete in Lineage2 and then have others simply bot their way up in a matter of a month or two with no effort.
Unless NCSoft does something about the level of cheating/botting, there won’t be a L2 let alone anyone wanting to sink a minutes worth of their time into another Lineage game (L3).
Sad thing is that if NCSoft would simply be proactive and ban the cheaters/botters and advertise the game it would easily compete for top spot in the North American market. Lineage2 is a great game that has been neglected.
NCSoft should do some sort of poll in North America… ask the following (not just to current L2 players but to a mixed audience including hardcore players of games like WoW):
If Lineage2 was to eradicate all forms of bot programs and be much more proactive versus cheating would you play the game?
(Yes) (No)
If Lineage2 were to allow easier leveling to level 61, A Grade, would you play? (doing this would barely impact the current high level player base and it could revive the game greatly)
(Yes) (No)
If NCSoft were to do both of the above would you play?
(Yes) (No)

botters is not the problem.. every game you play these days will have cheaters.. people play differently.. my point is that, the problem with the game in the U.S. is that they do know advertise. In Korea I see advertisments all over the trains.. PC rooms.. Etc… but in the U.S. I never saw 1..

Botters are only part of the problem. Lineage 2 is getting old now and people want a new game. In the beginning, advertising was the entire problem, I agree, but unless they would reset ALL THE SERVERS on top of advertising and fixing bots, no one would ever come to this game.
The lvling is too intense to start late. Everyone is high, rich, buying from IGE, and starting as a lvl 1 is a painful experience in all of that. Toning down the lvling, though, is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard someone say. That’s the entire fun of the game, it’s fucking hard and it’s a grind and it feels like a job, but that makes the results more rewarding, especially killing someone in PvP.
Lineage 3 is more anticipated than any MMORPG out there, even in the USA. I have many friends who play WoW hardcore, but they hate how easy it is. All they talk about is “when is Lineage 3 coming… L2 kicked ass”. It’s not a waste making a Lineage 3. Not at all. It’s a breath of fresh air and it’s a chance for NCSoft to improve on their mistakes with Lineage 2.

I agree with skew, lineage is going out of style because of the lack of advertisement. also lots of people are starting to go to private servers (which are getting better and better every day) because of super high rated servers that do not take months to reach great lvls, and not to mention its virtually free to play.
What NCSOFT should do is finish out Lineage 2, and then launch Lineage 3 as a world wide event. Except make sure that this time around to fix the contract so private servers cannot use the idea of Lineage 3. with enough advertisement in North America and SE Asia, Lineage 3 will be the most profitable and most played mmo out there.
just think about it, its already by far more complex, sophisticated, and adictive then any other game out there. and the only game that is keeping up at the moment is WOW. if anyone has any questions of comments email me (black.ace.87@gmail.com)

I been playing lineage2 for 3 years + in NA servers, the game is still good i hope NCsoft could do more advertising in the world for people to play NA servers in order to keep it up. There are new players coming in but at a slow rate, just do more advertising and free trials like its a new game and the server traffic will be soon be heavy instead of light or normal.

I AGREE why people play the private sever free!!!!!!! fast lvlin and lots of pvp everywhere. the problem is everyone cheats somehow other wise lvl the grind is boring as hell i know alot of people who dont cheat with programs such as l2 walker and are fed up with the cheaters because they lvl to max out with no hard work put into playing the game the way it is meant to play its a bunch of crap to make l3 unless there is no cheatin allowed then the hard core people who love the game will stay and the botters will stay or quit who cares not me cheating sucks takes the fun out of playin mmos lvlin faster and drop rates highier would keep alot of people around dont let it get corrupted like l2 otherwise im better of going to wow with my friends………

Well anyway
I believe that lineage3 will kick wow so hard in the ass if they just make free trails in the start and make a huge stunt out of the start (tv – radio’s – websites – msn – newspaper) they got the money so why not kick wow it is a crappy game ppl only play to wast their time cause hello lineage2 (with out cheaters) would kick wow any time if they just made more focus on it.
Lineage3:
Notifer system – you will have to build a system where players and game masters are closer meaning they work together to keep the real servers alive and clean.
Notifer will have to be a thing gamers do to warn a game master of a player or problem – You record xxx time of the problem that is and it automatlic sends it into game master who can view lets say a botter – a player record from he’s ingame view the botter like l2 recorder and the game master only have to watch the video (if it can prove that the player is botting)
Other way is that if you are grinding in a area and dont move (there will have to appear a box where u write a (XXXX) random number and if u write wrong u will get lets say 3 attemps so even if u miss click first times u get more trys but if u miss type 3 times u will get cut out of the server for maybe 30mins or more.
Anyway there is tons of ways to stop botter or cheaters i used 2mins to think of these im sure it is just a matter of thinking – ppl who can build such games as l2 and l3 should be abel to make such a thing that can stop the errors (cheats) from l2 and what else can come up.
anyway i cant wait to try l3 cause i know it will kick ass!

Started playing Lineage 2 for 3 days ago and im totally loving the game,
and when i heard about Lineage 3 on the internet i just though damn im gonna quit playing wow the game is to easy and Lineage actually giving something.
+ The Lineage world is so beautiful
but its many things they could do better in Lineage 2 though
but its fine as it is atleast in my opinion

lets hope l3 improves on all of the mistakes in l2.

Its not about how many people play it, is about if you like it or not. wow is so overrated, only because many play it dose not mean it is good for you. I made that mistake, played it a few months, got sick of the kids and instances.

I agree with what alot of people are saying…IMO some mmo games have some things better than L2 and L2 has some better than others…L2 imo is the best mmo out there the only thing is that L2 is 90% pvp and only like 10% pve…you should make it more pve orientated…like a 60% pvp and 40% pve…..and also make it alot easier to lvl…
I myself have played L2 since open beta and I quit back in c5 cause the grind was just to much and I didnt have 8-10 hours a day to spend to keep up with the others…when not playing for 2 days and then coming in to play you would be atleast 5 lvls behind from your friends and then you would have to find others to party with…it was annoying…
I remember back when Cruma Tower was the place to lvl…from lvls 36-40 in a party of nine it would take literaly 8 hours to get 1 lvl….not good…
all in all L2 is still the best mmo out there imo…
Just my thoughts….bring on L3

its not anything to be said but the entire reason that the grind is so hard in l2 is to make it more rewarding. Becasue it took so long for you to hit that level grinding all day your not just going to go into pvp light-hearted and die for no reason. No your going to work your self to death trying to stay alive so u dont lose that exp you worked so hard to get. This also makes wars between clans relivant becasue face it if a clan keeps ganking another waring clan’s exp grps, it makes wars have a point becasue the exp is so hard to achive in the first place.

if people whant to buy gold for this game all it does is help them in the begining the big issue is the bot programes that cause source code coruption i dont think that buying gold is a problem at all
One of the things wrong with this game is it does not feel polished and get rid of the point and click game play
and as for the grind go kill your self its a game not a job and i have to work 8-10hrs a day i want to be able to enjoy my self and have a half decent time in lvling and i whant to get to the good stuff and bring out l3 they need to up date graphics and have chars transferable were if you have a lvl 40 and up you can take them into the game at what ever lvl you are from there on stop with this work your self to death crap its a game take it for what it is and if they whant to stop gold buying sell it them selfs and make even more monye

I played L2 for about 1.5 years. the problem to me is that one u can’t lvl a toon in L2 with out buying money off a outside money sorce. the need to kill off the bot systems being used. there always be botting but u can stream line it down so that the botters after to play that toon to be able to get the money. i play wow and it’s like this we have botter but not like L2. make gear easier to get with a lower money system behind it. when i played A grade armor was crazy expensive. I see it this way and this is my opinion there are better games out there that are more polished and look better then this game etc. wow, conan to name a few. lol wow i agree looks toonish but the ingame play and content is what makes them grow bigger and bigger every year. NCsoft is just that soft they stopped L3 because they know they have a big problem with L2 so until they know they can fix those problem there not going to proceed.

L2s economy is so out of control new players barely stand a chance… The botters, open gold farming, and deleveled reds stopped me from playing. Hope they fix some of that in L3. But, dont hold your breath.
